We arrived at Georgetown Cupcake as the sun was beginning to set. It was 7:05pm and the bakery closes at 8pm on Sundays … We figured we had enough time.
Until we saw this lonnnnnng line. Then we started crossing our fingers that we would get a cupcake before they closed…
^^Cupcake Menu
It was 7:45pm by the time I took this pic. The sun was down and I was getting anxious about walking across the Key Bridge for nothing. At which point, a homeless man sitting on the stairs to my right began informing people in the line that the bakery would serve anyone who was in line by 8pm. After that, they would cut off new people who got in line. Said homeless also received a cupcake later on from a patron who had finally made it into the bakery. Smart homeless man. Don’t let anyone steal your perch.
^^8:05pm and we finally made it into the shop! It smellllled so good in there!
^^ Signature pink boxes…
^^ Prepping our order of a half dozen cupcakes…
^^ The “I know I look a hot mess but I’m so happy I got my cupcakes so who cares” photo.
^^ The view of the Georgetown waterfront and Monument as we walked back across the Key Bridge to the Rosslyn metro station. Definitely considering taking a night tour of the capital area. You can see photos of this view during the day here.
^^ Finally made it home and ready to dig in …
^^^ Our half dozen cupcakes that I decided to quadruple for my Instagram. Flavors we got: Carrot Cake, Chocolate Ganache, Vanilla (2), and my most favorite, Lava Fudge. Charles and I were completely silent as we ate our cupcakes which is always a sign that the food is too good to interrupt with conversation haha.
In Conclusion: I’ve eaten these cupcakes plenty of times before but always as a gift someone gave to me or they were delivered to me via mail. This was my first time actually going to the cupcakery and getting them in person. I had heard about the long lines from friends but didn’t realize just how long the lines were until Charles and I went this past Sunday. But lesson learned … Always anticipate a long line no matter what time or day it is. Either way, I promise these cupcakes are totally worth the wait :)
