Remember that one time alcohol was illegal? Yea, neither can I. But a couple weekends ago, the girls and I went back in time to the 1920’s to experience what life would’ve been like during the Prohibition … Correction: What the party scene would’ve been like if we had been born in that era. This is where the Jazz Age Lawn Party at Governor’s Island enters to steal the scene. This outdoor picnic/costume party was an experience I will never forget…
I could say so much… I could talk about how taking the ferry to get to and from Governor’s Island made me feel like I was truly being transported back to another time. I could talk about how much fun I had playing paparazzi snapping pics of people’s outfits with my iPhone. I could talk about how the live orchestra and dance performance by the Dreamland Follies fed my artistic soul to the brim. And I could also talk about how I was so happy it was really 2013 and that we could drink alcoholic beverages in public.
But what I really want to discuss is the fact that I’ve never felt so much understated sensual energy in one place such as with this event. And to be clear it was the kind of energy that didn’t feel the least intimidating. There we were, me and my girlfriends, openly ogling the men and women dressed so sharply, complimenting those who were especially dressed well. To be beautiful and owning it… The attendees of this lawn party were serving confident coquettish beauty on a platter. And isn’t that what makes some of the most beautiful people attractive? That mystique of being accessible yet untouchable all at the same time … Because let me tell you, the mystique of the 1920’s was positively pulsating at this year’s Jazz Age Lawn Party. And no … I’m not talking about X-Men’s Mystique … Or maybe I am …
For those who live in the NYC area, there is one last chance to immerse yourself in the awesomeness of this event. The Jazz Age Lawn Party will resurface one last time on August 17th & 18th. You can purchase tickets here :)
