For the beach in me loves the beach in you.
From my sandy toes to the ocean blue.
If I could make a choice, I’d repeat it again.
The choice to love myself and become my own best friend.
The sound of waves ashore, make me whole once more.
As sunrays cast a glance on my sweat-filled pores.
I think I’ll keep him with me and with me, in my heart.
He’s been my ride or die, from day one of our start.
The music blasts in the air, I hear a clackity-clack,
My hips they sway to the sound, I roll and pop my back.
This moment feels just right and ever so true…
For always, the beach in me loves the beach in you.
– Yours Truly –
Now that I think about it, the last time I shared a poem I wrote on here with you all was liiiiiiike four years ago. It’s another branch of the “creative hat” (in addition to dance and photography) that makes me, me. But it’s not something I tend to share because… I just don’t lol. Not even Charles has ever read through my stack of journals filled with poetry and prose – a stack that has been steadily growing since high school. This kind of creative writing is definitely a “just for me” kind of thing, unless I feel so moved to share like today.
When I travel, I always bring a mini-journal to take notes about what we do each day and to write whatever else that pops into my head. This poem came to me as Charles and I were lazily lounging on the beach one day in Miami… And, although a little corny, I thought it went perfectly with these self portrait photos I took.
Sooooooooo yea. Who else is ready for summer and the beach and the pool and nice tans and BARBECUES???
Wishing you a happy Sunday!
