As much as I love hanging out with my friends and family, there are some moments when I just need to have some quality ME time. Those moments to unwind and reinvest some energy back into myself. This past weekend I celebrated the beginning of summer with a solo trek out to Coney Island for a day at the beach! I didn’t quite know what to expect when I got there because the last image I had in my mind of Coney Island was the devastating footage seen on the news from when Hurricane Sandy hit. But I was pleasantly surprised to see the rides, boardwalk and beach area
bustling with people trying to get their photosynthesis on. When I wasn’t laying on the beach reading my romance novel, sipping on water that tasted a bit like rum (for 3 hours), I was strolling along the boardwalk
people watching and taking in the sights all while eating the yummy chocolate ice
cream cone I treated myself to…

Maybe it’s the sound of the ocean crashing along the shore or feeling the sun on my skin feeding me positive energy but going to the beach always has such a relaxing effect on me. I truly believe that although I’m a fire sign (Aries baby), water is my element. Even with my freestyle, I’ve had people say the fluidity of my movement is almost water-like. Ironic isn’t it? But I guess that’s what life is about about … Complimentary opposites attracting each other. Especially when living in the constant motion of a city such as NYC, it’s important immerse one’s self in a completely different environment every once in a while … And for me, the beach will always be the yin to my city yang.
