Here we go ya’ll. The first of many posts to come about our four-day vacay in Miami, Florida to celebrate Charles’s 31st birthday five months after the fact… Which is technically pretty good considering it took me a whole year to finally blog about our trip to Jordan haha.
Kicking off the recap with a few iPhone postcards from Miami including photos from our first night in the city.
We arrived in Miami on Charles’s actual birthday and, after settling into our Airbnb, I whisked him off to dinner at a nice seafood restaurant followed by paddleboarding/kayaking tour along the river canals in Downtown Miami later that evening.
I booked this tour through Airbnb Experience (not sponsored but feel free to holla at your girl Airbnb) because Charles and I really enjoy kayaking. And, man oh man, the experience itself surpassed our expectations. We had 3 guides to our group of 8 tourists which made me feel super secure on the water, we got to see Miami at night from a unique perspective and we ended the water experience with complimentary beer and wine. It doesn’t get much better than that.
Charles and I both highly recommend booking this experience if you’re ever in Miami.
With that said… Enjoy. :)

^^ When you try to take a “sexy walking out of the water” pic and an unsuspecting wave is like “Nah.”

Usually, when traveling, Charles and I squeeze in as much sightseeing as possible to the point that we typically come back home feeling more exhausted than when we left.
This time, instead of having every minute scheduled ahead of time, I did my usual research and made of general list of things to eat, see, or do in Miami. We then picked what we wanted to do each day based on how we were feeling. We didn’t set any alarms and slept in every day. Most days, we didn’t leave our Airbnb until after 12pm which is why many of the photos in this post were taken at night.
Charles and I joked the entire time that we were exploring Miami “vampire style” considering we’re usually up and out the door by 7am. It was a refreshing approach that fit perfectly with Miami’s laid-back beachy lifestyle and is one that we plan to use from now on when we travel.
This trip also marked the first time we visited another city in America and seriously thought, “We could see ourselves living here.” The diversity, fresh food, art & culture, low cost of living (in comparison to DC) and proximity to the Carribean without needing a visa to live there were all positives for us.
Granted, Florida has crazy gun laws, Miami City’s school system is one of the worst in America (had to google it for our “one day in the future kids” sake) and there’s hurricane season to seriously consider but we could settle with a timeshare or vacation condo in Miami to escape to when winter gets crazy on East Coast… One day.
Have you ever visited a city that “felt right” and made you seriously consider moving there?
