I’ve been holding off making this announcement on the blog for the longest until most of the the details were set. But I think it’s time to share the news … At the end of this month, I will be closing this New York Chapter and be making a move down to Virginia!! Now why would a lady like myself want to move away from such an amazing city as NYC??? Because I got accepted into grad school down in VA and will start working towards getting my Masters in Arts Management next Spring! And now you’re probably thinking why am I moving down so early? Because I felt like it would be super overwhelming to move down, try to find a job and a new place while starting school in August all at the same time.
As many of you know, I tore my ACL while dancing and had knee surgery over a year ago which lead to me working for a higher-ed dance program in NY. What I didn’t know is that I would find such genuine satisfaction working for the arts behind the scenes. I volunteered in my down time these past two years for various dance companies in NYC and based on these experiences, found a passion in the field of development/special events for the arts. Well … more specifically special events because it’s like choreography … In an entirely different sense. As such, grad school is the next step for me in furthering my education and gaining the experience needed to make it in the field of arts management. Yep, I’m about to be a school girl alll over again and I can’t wait!
I started blogging a year ago as a way to provide an outlet and capture moments of my life in the Big Apple because I knew my living situation wasn’t permanent. For some people, NYC is forever … For others like myself, it was a transitional bridge to cross. NYC will always be here. These past two years of living in New York have been such an enlightening experience. I’ve grown so much as a human being and am ready to embark on this new chapter of life in Virginia with no regrets. With growth, comes change and who knows … With my work being based in the arts, it’s quite possible that I’ll find myself back in NYC at some point in the future as it’s one of the arts meccas in the world.
What you’ll be surprised to find out is that the area I will be moving to in Virginia is actually 20-25 min away from my hometown, DC. Because DC is surrounded by Maryland and Virginia, the locals like to call the Washington Metropolitan Area the “DMV”. And when putting it into perspective, I currently live 25 min. north of NYC but spend most of my time in the big city so you know I’ll be spending quite a bit of time in DC despite living in VA. I couldn’t have asked for a more ideal situation. I can’t wait to get settled down south and explore all the places I took for granted growing up as a kid.
On that note, this month is going to fly by! I’m not sure how all these changes will affect the blog but I hope you’ll stick around as I make this transition! I still have soooo many posts to share of my explorations through New York (like 10 posts already prepped and counting haha)! I’ve been crossing off items on my NYC to-do list with a vengeance as of recently so if you want to get the real time action, make sure to follow me via Twitter and Instagram :)
3 Cheers to New Beginnings! Happy Tuesday!
