Guess who finally got around to working on some posts from our recent trip to NYC? *Raises Hand*
On the bus ride up to NYC, Charles and I started thinking about what we were going to eat when we arrived. I swear there’s never not a moment we aren’t thinking about food. It’s our favorite thing to do when we travel, outside of drinking and exploring (obviously). Since we were staying with friends in Harlem, we decided to look for food in the surrounding area. And being the frugal-tastic couple we are, we looked up restaurant deals on Groupon (our #1 discount go-to) and what do you know? We found a great deal for dinner at Mamajuana Cafe, a Latin-fusion restaurant located in Washington Heights.
The Deal: $39 for a shared appetizer, two entrees and two glasses of sangria. And with a few clicks on my Groupon app, our NYC date night was planned, purchased and ready to be used when we arrived at the restaurant a couple hours later…

^^ Chicken Stuffed w/ Dominican Sausage, Rice & Beans
^^ Steak & Garlic Frites – The seasoning on the steak was perfection.

If you can’t already tell from the photos, Charles and I were very satisfied with our experience at Mamajuana Cafe. We got there a little early and took in the ambiance as we waited at the bar area to be seated. The interior was very cozy with warm lighting while salsa & merengue music pulsated in the background. And the food? Man oh man, the food was electric! The minute I finished taking the required “pictures for the blog”, we dug into our food and didn’t say another word to each other until our plates were cleared. I don’t know why but food always seems to taste better when when it’s free or discounted… Don’t ya think?
