This past Friday, Charles and I traveled to Chicago to surprise my Mommy Ma for Mother’s Day annnnd we brought Charles’s mom, Nellie, with us too! :) The plan went a little something like this = My brother, Kris, (our partner in crime) invited my mom to have lunch with him on Friday and Charles, Nellie, and I were to arrive in time to join them. Sounds simple, right? Wrong.
Unfortunately, our flight from D.C. to Chicago was delayed by almost 2 hours because of the World War II Victory Flyover that was scheduled to take place right when our plane was supposed to take off. This meant that all incoming and outgoing air traffic was shut down in D.C. for an hour. On top of that delay, one of the old war planes that was flying around declared an emergency and had to land at Reagan Airport, all the while spewing hydraulic fuel on the runway. So they spent another 45 minutes cleaning the runway before our plane could depart. It was a mess.
As a result, we didn’t get to Chicago until 2:45pm Central Time (we were originally supposed to get there at 12:50pm). My brother ended up going to lunch with my mom (he was supposed to pick us up) and tried to stall her for as long as he could before she went to work at 4:00pm. So after we got out of the airport, we hopped in an Uber and made our way to where they were located = the mall. My bro had asked my mom to help him find a watch at Macy’s after lunch which is where the video below comes in to tell the rest of the story… Shoutout to Charles for the videography!
Today, my bro, Charles and I will be cooking my mom and Nellie breakfast at our AirBNB, which has an ah-mazing view of the Chicago skyline, before heading out to explore the city. I am sooooo happy that Charles and I are able spend Mother’s Day with both of our moms today! In the words of Drake, “Waaaaaaay up, I feel blessed.”
Photos from our time here in the Windy City will def be finding their way on the blog but in the meantime, you can follow along to see what we’ve been up to so far on Instagram and Snapchat – username: @setarrra.
