Raise your hand if you’re obsessed with the Food Network?
Raise your other hand if you also enjoy watching one of their popular series: Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives?
If both of your hands are in the air, let’s be friends. And also, this post is just for you. :)
As I mentioned previously in this post, when my mom is in town – she almost always wants to cook at home. She’s not a big fan of American food and prefers to eat our native Cambodian food.
At least most of the time…
The only exception for my mom is breakfast/brunch. She looooves her a good omelette.
Since relocating from Vienna to the Arlington area of Northern Virginia, Charles and I have been leisurely exploring the food scene and Metro 29 Diner was one of the first places we ate at after getting settled into our new place.
We learned about Metro 29 from my friend Camesha a couple years and she learned about Metro 29 via Diners, Drive-Ins & Dives. And anyone who watches “Triple D” knows that if Guy Fieri gives an establishment a shout out, it serves as a solid recommendation.
So when my mom mentioned grabbing brunch, I immediately knew we had to go to Metro 29.
My favorite thing to order off the menu at any diner?
Corned beef hash & two eggs over medium with a side of breakfast potatoes.
It hits the spot every single time. Especially when you break the eggs and let the yolk run all over the corned beef hash… That ish is sexy.
My bro ordered a waffle with strawberries and whipped cream.
And of course, my mom ordered an omelette with a side of broccoli. Isn’t she so cutest?
^^ The full spread.
We were feeling particularly gluttonous and decided to also order the french toast… For everyone to share, of course.
The french toast is by far my favorite item on Metro 29’s menu.
It’s massive (just look at the size of the challah bread they use!), moist on the inside, crispy on the outside and absolutely decadent in taste when you pour the syrup on top.
^^ My love for photography? I get it from my momma. I lie to you not when I say she takes more pictures than I do.
^^ Isn’t it a beaut!
To be completely honest, I was stuffed by the time I finished my corned beef hash. Heck, my mom and my bro were both full when they finished their main courses too. But we were determined to not let all that good french toast go to waste.
And so, we each took turns taking one bite out of the toast. Slowly and surely after a few rotations, we did manage to finish it all. It was a struggle but we did it.
Which makes me want to refer to another foodie show I like to watch (on the Travel Channel this time)…
In this round of man vs. food, victory goes to MAN! What’s your favorite thing to order off a diner menu?
