As the last work week before winter vacay came to a close, the question asked by all coworkers was “what do you plan to do over the holiday break?”
And my general response was “Stay home, sleep in, read some books, figure out a simple menu for myself and Charles to whip up on Christmas day and just relax.”
But in reality…
I’ve (so far) naturally waken up without an alarm every morning around 5am.
I went on a winter cleaning rampage in our home that included shredding mass piles of mail paper, dusting all surfaces, swiffering the floors, and purging clothes.
Attempted to do a self bikini wax at home that… Do I really need to go into detail about why I will never do that again? 2020 lady garden is still very much thriving and making her way into 2021 like the unbothered accessory she is.
Only got through three of the six books I had planned to read so far. In place of reading time, I found myself editing a couple batches of travel photos that have been sitting in the backlog.
^^ Can we please take a moment to appreciate my Mom going above and beyond to wrap the hanger on this present? lol.
Repotted a few plants into bigger pots, watched alot of Netflix and Hulu, went on chilly but invigorating nature walks, experienced an actual snow day, ate way tooo many sweets and dropped off presents to all my local family members the day before Christmas.
Christmas day itself was low-key. I woke up to the gift of my period (thanks uterus), we opened presents, ate breakfast, napped until about 4pm and then went to work on dinner = cedar plank salmon, rice, our go-to Della J’s sides and a homebaked sweet potato cake. The day ended with us watching the movie ‘Soul’ in our new Snuggies (movie was soooo good!), and then lights out.
What else has happened… *taps chin*
Oh yea! Charles and I went on our one and only official date of the year = drive-in movie; a first time experience that we both really enjoyed and would do again.
We picked up some Chipotle to eat in the car while watching the scheduled movie of the night = Die Hard.
A ‘classic Christmas’ movie according to Charles, who was adamant that I watch it after he learned I had never seen it before. It was great on the action, corny/outdated on the character development and script but, overall, entertaining. ‘Yippee-ki-yay, Motherf**ker’ maybe now one of my most favorite movie lines ever.
With that said, I’m still decompressing and reflecting on the reasoning, meaning and purpose of everything that’s taken place this year; both generally in the world and specifically in my life. So many lessons learned, realizations made, and growth still actively happening…
Soooo yea, no super deep post to close out the year. I’m going to simply sign off and sincerely wish you a merry merry happy happy restorative rest of your 2020!
‘See’ you in the new year.
