An ode to the weekend recaps that used to be the norm of the blogworld. My three day holiday weekend looked a little something like this…
Friday – I picked up Giney from my Dad’s after work and kicked off our sister sleepover with dinner at Metro 29. Well, more like brinner considering we shared an order of chocolate chip pancakes and scrambled eggs.
Also, if I could sum up Giney’s personality in a photo, the first one above hits it right on the spot.
Saturday – We went strawberry picking at Great Country Farms in Bluemont, VA. The forecast had called for rain alllll weekend but we lucked out with sunshine and warm temps that morning.
(A proper post about our strawberry picking trip plus a super simple berry dessert recipe coming your way this Thursday.)
^^ Sista, Sista.
^^Not sure if you can spot her but Giney’s at the top waiting to go down the slide.
Then we made our way back home and, after lunch, changed into our swimsuits and headed to the waterpark around my way. Unfortunately, around this time, the clouds started rolling through and it began drizzling. But both Giney and I didn’t care about a little rain and hung out at the pool from 2pm until it closed at 7pm.
Afterwards, I dropped her off at her mom’s place and literally zonked out on the couch 4 seconds after I got back home. I loved hanging out with my sis but she wore me out.
^^ Urban farmer Tom and his growing vegetation a la balcony.

Sunday – I picked Charles up from the airport and we hung out with our friends, Thomas and Rachel, for a mini-barbecue session and to watch the Celtics vs. Cavaliers game.
Charles and I were responsible for bringing the burgers and had yet to try out the Beyond Burger, a vegan burger that apparently looks and tastes like meat. So we went to 3 different stores looking for them and all three stores were allllll sold out. Our last option was Whole Foods – I called the store to make sure they had them. After getting confirmation, we had them hold a couple for us and went to pick them up.
Overall thoughts about the burger? They totally live up to the hype. Charles’s response = “Morningstar who???”
Monday – Charles and I went on our monthly date.
May was Charles’s month and he planned for us to we spend the morning kayaking around the Occoquan Reservoir at Fountainhead Park.
Kayaking is our favorite watersport. We got into it a few years ago and love getting on the water whenever we can.
It’s a nice workout and the boat is light and much easier to maneuver in comparison to a canoe.
We had a great time, paddling and floating around for a few hours, listening to the sounds of nature and getting some quality convo time in after being apart for 4 days.
Also, for the kayak rental and life jackets for 3 hours, our total came to $38 which has us coming in waaaaaay under our $100 date budget.
^^ Also, I posted a video of us kayaking on my Stories and my girl, Anna, was quick to joke me on my choice of kayaking apparel.
Her – “Is that a visor?” Me – “Yup. Don’t hate.” Her – “Ahhahahaha such an Asian mom.”
Annnnnnnd I am but I don’t care haha… I’m stylin. ;)

On a more serious note, for all the fun of this three day weekend, I’d be remiss if I didn’t acknowledge Memorial Day for what it is and take a moment to remember those who have passed in active military service.
While hanging out, Giney noticed and asked why there were so many motorcycles on the roads and I explained to her that many of the motorcyclists were veterans who had come to D.C. to pay homage to those who have fallen.
She then asked, “How do you pay homage?”
I said, “It depends on the person but the most universal way of remembering anyone who has passed is by having a moment of silence.”
After hearing that, she said she wanted to do a moment of silence and so we did.
I turned off the radio in the car (this was while we were in route to the strawberry fields) and we drove in silence for one minute.
How was your Memorial Day weekend?
