^^ Would you believe me if I said that I did my nails by myself? Because I did… Courtesy of the super easy to apply nail wraps and TruShine gel nail system by Jamberry.
My girl, Leslie, (who you may have seen in my last post about our yummy dining experience at Sisters Thai) just so happens to be a Jamberry consultant and put me onto their nail wraps a couple months ago. Well more like… I noticed how amazing and fun her nails were every single time we hung out and finally asked her if she went to the salon to get her nails done every week (because I’m uber nosy like that).
Her answer? “Girl, I do my nails at home.”
Me = “Really?! You know how to do those little designs on your nails?”
Her = “Haha, I wish… I use the nail wraps from Jamberry.”
Of course, my next question was, “How pricey is this Jamberry thingamajig?”
Her – “Not pricey at all. $15 for a sheet of nail wraps and with one sheet, you can do 2 sets of manicures and a pedicure. It’s actually alot cheaper than going to a salon to get them done.”
She then went on to tell me about how she found out about about Jamberry (through one of her friends), what it was all about (a beauty company founded by three sisters in 2010 who decided to create a line of DIY nail wraps and gel nail polishes after having a slow and expensive experience at a salon) and how she loved it so much that she decided to join in on the fun and become a consultant.
^^ Leslie and her always perfect nails. Also, can somebody say “eyelash envy”. :)
After hearing Leslie’s story, I was pretty intrigued. Skeptical (because I’m skeptical of everything at first haha) but still very much intrigued because despite the fact that I’m pretty low maintenance, I must admit that I have secret love for getting my nails done and in particular, nail art.
When I lived in NYC three years ago, I used to get my nails (manicure & pedicure) done once a month at a salon around the corner from where I lived. But after I moved down to Northern Virginia and shacked up with Charles (and got married), we got serious about cutting expenses so we could realize our dream of traveling as much as possible before having kids. As a result, my monthly expense of spending about $45 on a mani/pedi was put to a stop immediately. And as a result of that cut expense, I started doing my nails at home.
But the thing is I kind of suck at doing my own nails… I don’t have steady hands so they’re always shaking when I do them and I get the nail polish everywhere. Don’t even get my started on trying to paint the nails on my right hand with my left hand = a hot mess haha. As a result of this, I barely do my nails anymore.
The hassle of getting nail polish everywhere on my fingers and the low cost for the nail wrap were the main reasons why I decided to finally give Jamberry a try a couple weeks ago. I went over to Leslie’s house one weekend, picked a nail wrap out of the 300+ designs that Jamberry offers and she showed me how to apply them. The process was pretty easy and took me about 15 minutes max to get done.
Here’s a youtube video showing step by step how to apply the nail wraps. The only difference from the video is that I use my hair dryer to heat the nail wrap before I place it on my fingernail.
I only used the nail wrap for my accent nail and then I used the TruShine Gel Enamel system on the rest of my nails. Two weeks later, my nails were still fresh and poppin = LOVE.
Because of this experience, I ordered another set of nail wraps in preparation for my trip to Mexico next week! I think the Bon Voyage nail wrap is perfect for any travel loving gal.
