Dear Harlem Shake: I am soooooo over you! Correction: I love the dance move … As in the ORIGINAL harlem shake. But I strongly dislike all these viral youtube videos going around. It adds salt to a dance form that already doesn’t receive enough credit and further degrades it’s significance as it relates to Harlem community in NYC. And besides … Some of these “harlem shake” videos aren’t even funny! If you’re reading this and thinking “Setarra, chill out. It’s just fun and games and has allowed people around the world to connect on a level where they can all enjoy making fun of themselves …” I Can’t Help It. The hip-hop dancer in me cringes every time I see a new ‘Harlem Shake’ video pop up these days… If you love these viral videos that are coming out, do you. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. This one happens to be mine :) But please make sure you actually know what the REAL Harlem Shake Dance looks like … I’ll even add in a Pretty Please for effect :)
“Actor and filmmaker Chris McGuire took his camera to Harlem to ask the community what they thought of the current ‘Harlem Shake’ video craze.”
And with that being said, I DO appreciate the below Harlem Shake video ;)
{Phew … Maybe I should’ve saved that rant for an “Honest Hump Day” post?}
Dear Weekend: I’ve divided you into 2 sections. Saturday will be spent doing laundry and getting some errands done. Sunday will be spent going on a date with myself exploring more of NYC. I have the Frick Collection & Alice’s Tea Cup on my to-do list. I refuse to live in New York and not see as much of it as I can … On a budget. Thank goodness the Frick is “pay what you want” from 11am-1pm on Sundays. Best believe I will be there at 11:30am with 5 bucks in hand! #brokeresidenttourist
Dear New and Current Readers: I’ve hit 200 followers today! I know … It’s not 1,000 but progress is progress and I’ll take my little victory :) Woot Woot! Kudos to Christine for being my 200th follower!
And as I did the last time when I hit 100 followers … I present you all with another Chuck Norris joke to celebrate 200! Well … actually it’s a Bruce Lee Joke because while I do love Chuck Norris jokes … Bruce Lee will ALWAYS be #1 in my book!
{I’m dying laughing right now}
Have a Great Weekend Everyone!
xo, Setarra
