What’s a girl to do when it’s her turn to plan the monthly date with her boo in February?
Two words. BLACK PANTHER.
When Charles found out I had gotten tickets for opening weekend, he got super excited like a little kid who just found out he was going to Disneyland. Punching the air and everything lol.
We woke up early Saturday morning and hopped on the metro to catch a matinee. We arrived at the 9:30am showing at 9:25am and the theater was PACKED. Thank goodness I had reserved our seats ahead of time or we would’ve been sitting right in front of the screen.

Overall thoughts about the movie? The simple answer would be “Wakanda Forever”.
The longer answer would be “Where do I even begin?” It was just soooo well done. The acting, the action, the special effects, the strong female characters and representation of black excellence at its finest… including Michael B. Jordan’s body. I mean, woooooooooo!
Overall, I think this NY Times review (spoiler alert) does a good job of hitting all the points that Charles and I discussed about the movie after watching it.
Movie experience complete, we stopped by Potbelly’s for lunch and then moved on to the second part of our monthly date.
When brainstorming ideas for what to do, I figured that after watching an action film it made sense to do something action oriented.
With that idea in mind, I search the internet for different adult activities that were reasonably priced and landed on the Autobahn Indoor Speedway located in the Dulles, Virginia.
An indoor go-kart race track, the go-karts at the Autobahn go up to 50 miles per hour which is pretty damn fast for go-kart standards.
^^ Charles simulating his go-kart driving skills lol.
For $50 pp, we were able to race three times with each race lasting about 15 minutes. We only ended up racing twice (and saving our third race for another time) before heading home because it had started snowing heavily.
But those two races we did do were soooo much fun.
^^ They had everyone go around the track once at a slower pace before the race officially started at full speed.
Charles beat me both races (as usual, he beats me at everything) but I didn’t care. I felt like such a bad ass zooming around the track as fast as I could. It was definitely an adrenaline rush to push my go-kart to the limit, even in the moments when I wiped out while trying to turn a few corners too fast.
As for our $100 monthly date budget… I kind of went a little over.
Black Panther Tickets = $18
Potbelly = $16
Go Kart Racing = $100
———————————-
Total = $136
Of course, Charles was joking me after our date because I was technically the one who made the rule to stay under $100… But I mean, if I make the rules that means I also can break them, right?
Regardless, I think the splurge was worth it.
Have you seen Black Panther yet? What were your thoughts about the movie?
